The Bissell Little Green carpet and upholstery cleaner is as good as legend among HuffPost readers and even discerning editors who personally swear by its cleaning powers. But, today we meet a more affordable alternative that not one, but several reviewers are calling better than the famous green original — and it’s even cheaper because it’s currently on sale for 31% off at Amazon.
The Hoover CleanSlate Plus is a versatile and compact machine that combines powerful suction, scrubbing action and “shampooing” to remove messes and stains from virtually any soft surface.
Its cleaning capacity is only maximized by its impressive array of included attachments that make the Hoover a true hero, including a narrow upholstery attachment that can reach messes in tight corners like along stair edges, baseboards and upholstery grooves. Plus, the intentionally long-corded design and and diminutive size means that the CleanSlate is super easy to pull out and take anywhere in your home (or out to your car).
Users of this machine have likened it to a non-negotiable home essential as it’s managed to make unfortunate pet messes (diarrhea, vomit, pee — you name it) disappear like magic, while also breathing new life into carpets and furniture. It can even tackle larger “life-size” messes, according to the maker.
One reviewer also laid out some key differences between the Hoover and the Bissell citing factors like greater portability, better attachments, stronger suction and better drying power.
If you’re a fan of the classics and still want to opt for the Bissell Little Green instead (which, we still believe is a great choice) then you’re in luck because it’s also currently on sale for 19% off at Amazon.
But, if you’ve been convinced to make the switch, snag the Hoover while it’s still on sale from any of the links, or keep scrolling to read some pretty mind-blowing reviews.
Promising Amazon reviews:
“Better than the little green machine! I normally don’t write reviews but after taking this for the first time I am extremely impressed. I have a white sectional I spent way too much money on and after reducing a large dog my sectional started looking light beige… gross. I have a little green machine and have tiredly cleaned and cleaned and cleaned the entire thing with my little green machine. It would cause streaks and the suction wasn’t great. The nozzle for suction was also so small. I was at my wits end and just wanted to buy a new sectional but decided to give it one more go. The first pass through in one cushion sucked up so much yellow dirt and it was only a week ago I cleaned it with the little green. I was shocked – the large nozzle makes it go so much faster and the suction is POWERFUL. I also used the smaller scrubber for the welted areas (places I couldn’t get to before) and WHOA my sectional looks almost new. I used the cleaner that came in the box for one full clean and then used hot water and a splash of a scented detergent (diva, iykyk) and I am so happy. I would highly highly recommend this over all of the other ones I’ve used in the past.” — Nikki
“Bissell Who? This little Hoover spot cleaner works great! I can understand what people say about the suction not being the best, however, if you properly angle it and do slow passes per the instructions, it works great! After years of using the Bissell green machine (at least 4 purchases over the last 15 years), we will NEVER go back to Bissell. Also, the suction arm on the Hoover is designed better than the Bissell, I don’t think it will break where the hose meets the wand like the Bissell always did.” — Ashley T.
“If your pet had accidents – even just every once in a blue moon, this thing is worth its weight in gold.
I’ve used it on a soft medium high pile carpet, and you can see how this machine gets the dirt out of it, not only from the surface but from deep down. Because of that it will prevent unpleasant odors that may be noticed when just dapping or hand cleaning the carpet.
It’s perfect in size, easy to carry, the hose is long enough & so is the electric cord. It’s literally a (carpet) life saver.” — FS-IND“Wow. That’s all I can say. 24 hours ago my oldest dog had a very unfortunate anal explosion. This product eliminates the stain with very little effort. Best part it’s super easy to operate. The result is perfection. Do not hesitate to purchase if you have carpet.” — Christina V.
“Why did I wait to buy? Why did I wait to use? I’ve been looking at one of these little wet/cleaning vaca for a couple of years. Seemed useful, but I had my trusty rags and cleaners. So, why bother? Finally decided after my 18 yr old cat started throwing up, on a regular basis( poor little thing) . O.M.G. What a difference. Just fill up the little tank w/appropriate mixture. Suck. Spray. Suck. Scrub. Repeat. It was so easy. And the spot was removed more effectively and completely. I even went back over areas in my basement that had faint staining. Keep in mind I had used top-level rug cleaners. In some cases several times. Old stains. Lifted like magic. I even decided to try to remove a stain on an old upholstered chair. Literally a basement chair. Cream colored fabric. Just to see what would happen. At first, I thought the stain had been made worse. Oh well. Just a chair in a storage area. Dried overnight. Stain virtually gone. What! I am so obsessed. Wish I had wall to wall carpet. This little wonder would have been a a godsend when I was house training my pup. Placing the vacuum over the accident, one can remove more of the urine before starting to apply solution and ‘actual’ cleaning. Making for a more complete cleanup. I can’t say it enough. If you have pets or kids this should be like having a broom or a mop. Non-optiona! Happy Cleaning!” — AuntDeDe
